I would, but I don't know that I'd be able to devote enough time to grading assignments.
Stupid school. xD

Peter, I'm not sure I understand what you mean in your first point. I am planning on ending term after maybe 3 or 4 lessons, if possible. Also, your second point is something I think about every day. This really infuriates me. If you're going to sign up, then don't just post the sign-ups and go. Even if you get on once a week, that's OK, but ... grrr. Anyway. I'm not sure anyone would take the time to make a professor character ... I would if you need one. I have some adult character ideas (stolen from the adoption area from my home site, but they're still good ideas). So if you need someone, I'll be down for it. Speaking of adoption...I think it would be cool to have a character adoption area. For instance, if a new member can't think up a good character idea or if a current member wants a secondary character...it would be good. Also, when current members have character ideas but don't have time to play them, they can put the character up for adoption. I also agree with Peter that we should have a set time span, so we know what month it is. This can be used for many things-holidays, weather conditions, important events, etc. Just have a month in the welc. table and change it every 2 or 3 weeks, however long you think a RPG month should last. A good way to keep in close contact with members is to have AIM chat sessions--I participate in them a lot and it's great fun, and we get to know each other and bond with each other much better, outside of role play. The Admin simply gets everyone's screen names (who wants to participate) and either schedules a set chat date or simply sends a chat invite whenever a lot of members happen to be online. I know I'm a noob to your site and I'm sorry if me suggesting things on my first day is annoying...but I plan on being active here, so I want to start acting like it

I'm not sure about AIM, because I don't have it, but I keep in contact with Zaid over MSN a lot, and it would be good if I could talk to the others outside of the roleplaying as well.

Thanks for your opinions and suggestions, Ursula. I agree with nearly everything you say. However, I am sorry to say that site is getting a bit inactive so I can't really decide when term will end, or when we'll have events, since some people may forget and make the whole thing useless. If you got that.
I agree with Hannah, how not everyone has AIM (I have it, but rarely go on it.) I do think that chatting to people OOC is really important and helps you make friendships and want to RP, therefore providing a nicer RP community/experience. Thus, we have "The Muggle Board" which is just a place to post OOC and just chat about random stuff. If you really want to talk to someone over an Instant Messenger, then maybe you could PM them and ask for their address? Do not badger them, some people feel that they may not want to give you their username and that is really their perogative. Please respect that others may not wish to talk to someone who they have never met.
I've seen the adoption thing on another board, it seems to work OK ... but not many people seemed to sign up for it (and that was a VERY active site with 450 or so members). We'll see ... I always add new things once we get past a certain member count ... maybe since we just passed 100, we could do something special? I'll have to think about it.
P.S Your graphics rock!

Yes, I understand how members can get confused with the dates and everything--but it'd be better to establish something like that now (if you plan on doing it in the future), that way your current/loyal members will already have the swing of things once the site gains more activity, and those members will be able to explain how things work to new members as well as yourself. A simple 'hey, it's RPG-March! RPG-April begins on [insert real-life day here]!' This way, everyone will know things such as holidays and weather conditions in advance.
I also understand the entire IM-situation. It would by no means be manditory, but I figured that it would be a good idea for getting members to be on a more friendly basis with each other, if they so choose. However, some people value their privacy and that is something I value and respect.
And the adoption thing, it's nothing huge. It's more of an area to dump spare character ideas than anything in my opinion. :-P
PS: Thanks! :">

Yeah! I like the idea in the first paragraph. I have an idea on how to do this. Not too sure though right now about it. Also, your graphics board description has been updated .

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make the site more active? And Giselle, I hear what you're saying, but I think me need to get more members before we make even MORE boards

Activity...
First, the site needs to look good and appealing on a first glance. I'm working on that, as well as trying to find out how to speed up loading time for people with computers like mine's.
Secondly, advertising, or, hehe, stealing members. Zaid, you're in a perfect position to do that, since you're a part of a lot of sites. Just send messages to people you know that might be interested or post up an ad on the sites you go to. The members there are more likely to trust the word of a fellow member, so... There you go.
Thirdly, a good staff group. This is for keeping members. Students tend to leave sometimes if the teachers don't even bother showing up. I think we should cut down the number of subjects to fill up the most important staff spots first, and set up rules for professors like at BCA so the professors actually do their job. If you'd like, I'd teach Divination as Matt, but I'd probably not be around enough for that.
Fourthly (is that a word?), contests and activities. Also, a plot would keep members here, but a single plot would be hard to devise so that everyone's involved. Thus, we can use subplots, like I discussed on Kamikaze. Lisa did a sweet job with that pageant, and I plan to use the Ministry workers for a variety of plots.
Finally, perhaps some boards can be disabled until we get more activity around here?

Yeah, I'll send around some ads on sites . Remember, please, that for every time you advertise or bring a member, you get either 8 karma or 30 house points! In relation to the loading time, I've taken out as many codes as I thought I could do without. I suppose you could take out the one where the karma words change? The professor problem is really annoying me --- no one seems to stick around That's a really bad thing about this site I like plot ideas, and as I said I'm sure a lot of people (hint Hannah hint) would want to take part. The pagaent is sort of slowing down I think. For some reason. Mainly because a lot of people aren't coming online anymore who were signed up for it. I had the Ministry boards hidden from everyone apart from MoM employees, and admins. But today I made them visible because you posted that notice ... should I make it invisible again and maybe you move the notice?

people like RP sites with lots of members so its active and enjoyable and they judge the quality of the RP site on the number of posts and the number of members, so you could just create lots of dummy accounts to boost up the numbers to make your site look better (i did this with my own site and it worked)

I agree with Andy - I'm not doing that. How many members does your site have? And what percent of those are dummy accounts?

Yeah, thats not good, cheating and bad. Plus, whats the point. We need NEW members, not old ones....right.....?
