"At times yes." Ronan said noticing the change but going with it "I normally look into it as far as the consequences of my actions. Normally I am willing to accept them no matter what......much like this time." Ronan looked out the door into the cold outside and asked "Do you always get defencive when your point of view is questioned?"

Peter had been reading Khaled Hosseini's "The Kite Runner" is a quaint little booth somewhere in the back corner of the food court when suddenly the stuffed dog of the boy in front of him started barking and scratching itself. He raised an eyebrow, slowly lowering his book.
Odd. He thought to himself, nonchalantly scanning the perimiter of the court.
Most people couldn't understand how it was possible to read in loud places. The boy had asked him that very question about a minute ago. He had responded with, "I just pretend everyone around me is a giant blob, so all the noise mixes together, and then I pretend that blob doesn't exist." He was in one of those states where he wasn't feeling much emotion to put into the wink and smirk he gave the boy, but it was genuine anyway. The kid had giggled and stared at him for a few more seconds before resuming wrestling his stuffed dog.
An easier explanation about his reading habit, in the wizarding world anyways, would have been "I'm a Ravenclaw."
His gaze found a boy his age flicking a wand about, chatting with another who looked like someone Peter had seen sorted into Ravenclaw. Peter was as emotionally intuitive as he was a master of cold logic and hard fact. Beyond the posture of his fellow Ravenclaw and the occasional nervous movement, Peter could sense a concerned objection to the other boy's use of magic in public. It seeped out of his housemate like sweat from an Olympic track runner.
The boy did more magic. Peter's eye twitched. He stood, closing his book a bit more dramatically than intended. The boy shot a glance up at him. "Look at my doggie Mister!"
"That's great!" he smiled, half caring. His attention was on the other wizards. He approached them, hands absently twirling the karma beads in the pocket of his light-weight hooded jacket.

He'd been half-listening to what Ronan was saying and half-paying attention to the things going on when he'd accussed Liam of being defensive. It took him more by surprise then anything, and made him sit up straighter in his seat. "Defensive?" he asked, almost laughing, "Me? No. Not really. I usually just go with what everyone else is saying, if it sounds reasonable and I believe in it."
As he was speaking, he turned at see that Ronan's magic tricks had managed to get a little more attention then he'd wanted. It took him a few moments to register that the boy who seemed older then them look farmiluar, and slightly longer for him to remember where from. He'd seen Peter throughout their school life together occassionally in the Ravenclaw common room. Because he wasn't in Liam's year and had been around as ong as he could remember, he'd come to the conclusion he was in the year above. Yet, with all of this remembering, the name still evaded him.
Even so, he nodded a formal greeting him to show he recognised him and appreciated that he was there.

He gave a friendly wave (which was basically him half lifting his hand and saluting three fingers) and placed a hand on a chair at their table.
"Hey." He said to the other Ravenclaw, not remembering his name. It occured to him that in Britain it was HIM with the accent, not everyone else. Back in the States, everyone referred to people from Colorado as having no accent. It was true. They probably had the least accentuated voices of the rest of the US states. But this also tended to make him something of a vocal chameleon, he could pick up on another accent quite easily. All the same, if he had anything it was an almost un-noticable German accent that had come from spending three summers there.
"I'm Peter," He said, giving a half smirk. "I've seen you around. It's nice to see you here." He gave the other a less friendly, amused glance. "You are rather reckless, aren't you? What are you, Gryffindor?"

"Reckless? No I am not. If I was then I would already be in Azkaban." Ronan said with a smile. "But as I was saying to liam here it is much worth the risk to bring a little bit of Happiness to these innocent lives. May I ask why you have a problem with it? It has not affected you." Ronan was normally a very polite and kind person, but complete strangers questioning his actions before they knew anything was getting on his nerves. All through this so far he managed to stay in control of his emotions.

He smiled at the defensiveness of who he was sure now was a Gryffindor. "I think it's very noble, and very stupid. If you want to make the kid happy, make him a balloon animal. Buy him the cookie his mom won't let him have. Give him the tickets you won at the arcade so he can get a better prize then glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth. But don't use magic like that."
It wasn't the selfless act of kindness that bothered him. He thought it was great this guy would go to azkaban for a muggle kids happiness. It was his own realistic nature that got to him.
"He can't keep the puppy. Now he'll be heart broken. Now the stuffed animal won't be enough." He shrugged. "I'm not here to burst your bubble or anything. I just think you should know...muggle children are different. It makes them happier if they believe in magic and never see any then if they get even the slightest bit and can't hold onto it. I would know."

"You thihnk I just choose my targets at random?" Ronan asked with a small smirk "No i have had an eye one most of them for a few months. That boy there has no friends outside of his animals. His parents have been planning on getting a real dog for him...I just helped." Ronan looked the boy dead into the eyes his set ablaze with an unrelenting passion and wisdom "Now I would appreciate it if you did not judge my actions before you actually know them. What can do more damage my useing magic to bring a little joy teperary or not to the world....where in a few years it will be forgotten, or your judgeing of others and their actions before you know them and the pourpose of their actions?"

"That would depend on who's perspective I'm looking at. For me I would say your actions, because yours can get you arrested and mine are simple matters of personal judgement. If I was looking at it from your point of view, I would be the ass trying to stop a hero from making a kid happy. I would argue my opinions are derived from concern for others and that yours is based on an ego trip, or else the deluded thought that you'll be a hero.
"But honestly it doesn't really matter. Because the kids happy, you aren't in azkaban, and I don't care enough to argue. Besides, I speak from the bias of a painful childhood, in terms of magic. I'll question your motives next time before I question the act. Forgive me?"

"How can I not forgive you?" Ronan asked with a kind smile. he liked the guy he was quick on his toes..even though he was a little one sided in his thought, but most people around here seem to be. "So What is your name Ravenclaw? I am known as Ronan Callahan."

He was glad. He liked Ronan about a hundred times more now that he knew he could forgive. Apologizing and admitting being wrong -or at least, not entirely right- was difficult for a Ravenclaw. He grinned. "Peter. Peter Traumen. It's nice to meet you." He held out a hand. It was nice to know someone he could hold a decent conversation with who hadn't quickly written him off.

Ronan took the hand in his and smiled. "Pleasure is mine." He said "Now what are you going to school for?" Ronan was trying to cover the akwardness and mild anger of the start of the conversation. "I am looking for a job at the Ministry in the department of Experimental Spells."

Maybe that all ended a bit too fast? I'm not sure I would do to well with someone harshly questioning my beliefs...
He sighed. "I want to teach, and learn as much as I can. Listen, I shouldn't have been so harsh. I don't even really disagree with what you were doing so much. I was just...somewhere else. I'm sorry."

Ronan smiled and said "It is past so lets leave it there. Not forget about it, but not bring it to the present. No harm was done that is not already fixing." He pulled out his wand and started to twirl it and just fiddle with it "You where only expressing your point of view...nothing to be sorry for."

He chuckled. "Sure you're not a Ravenclaw?"
It was true. It was also his weakness. He didn't care at all about the past, and it made him seem insensitive sometimes. It also occasionally blinded him to the obvious reasons for his own feelings.
Anyway, he hoped he would have opportunites to get to know Ronan better. He turned his attention to the other boy there.
