"Y-Y-You can't t-tell? An almighty, all powerful, all smart Slytherin can't figure it out?" Sam was putting uneccessary emphasis on these words to mock Seth, or at least try to. "Pale skin, automatic reaction to light and you STILL can't tell? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?" Shouting the last part, tears came to Sam's eyes. "All these stories, all this. Werewolves? They're tame!" He was beginning to laugh. He looked at Kasey in an almost loving way, though with a hint of malice in his eyes. "I though you'd get it..." He said softer now.

Kasey stumbled a little as she found Melville already stepping back. She almost tripped over, but tightened her grip on Seth and managed to regain her balance.
It was starting to dawn on her now, and when Sam yelled at Seth she shrunk back a little. Her blue eyes became wide with fear as Sam turned into someone angry, someone who wasn't a normal student. His eyes made her heart race, it was pumping so hard against her chest she felt her lungs freeze to try and give it room. Or maybe it was the fear that had caused her to stop breathing.
She bit her lip as his voice softened and started to feel pity for him. She tilted her head and looked from Sam to Melville and then back again.
"You're a vampire?" She asked quietly.

Laughing again, Sam said, "Yes. I am. And you caught me on a such a bad day. See, you interrupted my feeding." He grinned slyly. "A Unicorn, nothing more. But you..." He stopped himself. What was he doing? Attacking other students? That was never his way! But he was so hungry...
This inner torment was beginning to show on his face. Suddenly, he opened his eyes for the first time for everyone to see. His eyes were competely and utterly blood red. No iris. No pupil. Just red. And they were creased in pain...

He felt Kasey's tight grip on him as a small comfort against the impact of his words. He had been slow in realising exactly what Sam was, so why hadn't he seen it before? He looked down angrilly, trying to think of why he'd been so slow. Surely he'd have worked this out.
He stood infront of kasey protectivly, but pulled them both back at the same time. "A vampire...?" he said in a small voice. "Another one?" he said to himself in confusion.
Knowing another vampire made him slightly less afraid, but the knowledge that he knew very little of their kind frightened him deeply, making his breath come shorter and shakier then he'd have liked. "You don't want to hurt us." he said in a surprisingly strong voice, hoping this was true for him.

Kasey looked on with concern laced on her face more than anything else. She bit her bottom lip and shook out the light in her wand a little so that is was just a dim glow, enough that they could all see, but nothing she hoped would hurt the other Hufflepuff.
She swallowed loudly when he said they'd interrupted his feed, she knew what he had started to say, but he stopped and she wanted to step towards him, she actually wanted to give him a hug, but, she knew that was stupid, exposing herself completely to be bitten.
His red eyes set upon them and she felt her lips part slightly, the hand with her wand moving up to cover her mouth. She'd never seen a vampire in the flesh before, it was something terrifying, yet, somehow to her, heartbreaking.
She felt Seth stepped in front of her and frowned slightly, a big change from the Slytherin, going from wanting to use her as bait to standing between her an the vampire.
She shook her head. "No, he doesn't." She said quietly. "If he wanted to, he would have already done it, I'm sure." She bit her lip and took a step out from behind Seth. "When did..." She stopped and frowned slightly. He was a student, so he couldn't have been a vampire for too long. "How long have you..." She stopped again, it wasn't the easiest question to ask and she licked her lips. "When were you turned?" She finally managed to get out.

"No, Seth, I don't want to hurt you. Why would I? But what choice to I have?" His eyes flicked back and forth between the two. He was down on his hunches, his mouth slightly open, revealing the two tip canines, at least an inch and a half in length. "Since I was little." Again, his voice was softer now. He had turned fully to face Kasey. "I was told by the one who turned me that it was a gift. It's more like a curse. I can hear everyone's heartbeat all the time... I can see in the darkest night... Night is home to me, more or less..."

He didn't say anything for a while, frowning as he tried to think of a way out of this, and hopefully some way to help him at the same time, as this all began to make him think. Missing so many lessons had meant that his brain wasn't very quick, but he was still trying.
"Sam... there must be something you can do? They wouldn't have stuck you in here if they thought you had to hurt people, right?" he was very careful with his next words, afraid of letting something slip, "Isn't there anyone else who has something similar that you can talk to?"

Kasey bit her bottom lip and swallowed as Sam spoke to Seth. She tensed a little as she noticed his jaws and felt her heart racing even faster. She wanted to pass out now, wake up safe in the dorm, but she was worried she'd wake up something else if she let her mind pass out.
She frowned slightly in concern as Sam turned to her and answered her question. Her heart went out to him and she tilted her head and felt her shoulders slumping. "Isn't there anything that can be done? Like, wolfsbane for werewolves?" She asked quietly, it was clear her heart was going out to Sam.
It must be so lonely for him.
She looked at Seth as he spoke and noticed now he knew he didn't try and tell Sam to call him Melville instead of Seth. She was surprised to hear him saying similar words to what she was saying. She wasn't sure whether he was saying it to gain Sam's good side or whether he was trying not to show how scared he was.

Sam's head snapped round as he heard Kasey speak. "You think if it was that easy I wouldn't have tried it?" He snarled slightly. "There is someone else in a smiliar situation but that was her choice. She did it for me..." He stopped, looking at the ground, before looking up and leaping over them, snarling again. "I don't have to hurt people! I have never hurt a person against their will! But I have never beenin a situation like this before! If people would just stay out of the Forbidden Forest, I wouldn't be a danger, would I? WOULD I?"

Someone else... Was that the same one that Melville knew about? He didn't want to say any names, and sure as hell didn't want Kasey to know either.
He stepped forwards, his confidence starting to return as he adapted to the situation, "Telling people not to go in here would just make them want to go more." he said, quite accurately. "And you're going to have to pull yourself together around people anyway, get used to fighting it." he scorned.
He remembered with a strange humour of how he'd forced him away from the patch of grass last term. If he'd known Sam was a vampire, he would have been slightly more careful.

"I fight it constantly. It's easier than you think, until I get hungry. Sure, normal food does the trick, but I just get weaker and weaker at holding this... Curse off as I get hungrier. So I need blood! So I come into the Forest! No one normally comes in here, but trust a stupid Slytherin and a trusting Hufflepuff to enter at the wrong time." By now Sam was basically talking to himself, his eyes wide, sweat dripping from him. He stopped several times, sniffing the air, before rambling on again. He stopped abruptly, looking at Kasey. "You sound different... Are you...?" He just sat there, on his haunches, looking at her.

Kasey was surprised at the sudden bark from Sam. She stepped back a little, so she was level with Seth and licked her lips. She nodded slowly and then looked around as he mentioned another, her eyes searched the trees looking for some kind of an ambush even though they couldn't have possibly known that Kasey and Seth would be in the forest.
She looked back at Sam as he mentioned staying out of the forest and glowered then at Seth. That was true, there was no way anyone could deny that. She frowned still at Seth as he pointed out the typical human nature of disobedience and then she looked at the ground as Sam started to mutter.
She looked up, thinking of a protest about being the trusting Hufflepuff and her eyes caught Sam's. She had been about to say that they should go when Sam talked to her.
She frowned slightly. Different? What on Earth did he mean? She hadn't said anything for... Realisation flashed in her blue eyes and she glanced at the dark ground.
"Do you mean my heartbeat?" She asked quietly. "I'm not so scared anymore..." She supplied an answer if he did, though she really wasn't quite sure.

It took all of Melville's strength not to aim his wand upwards to Sam when he called him a 'stupid Slytherin', but he restrained. Threatening a vampire, to the best of his knowledge, wasn't such a good thing to do if you want to live a naturally long life. Still, he wanted to say something -
His thoughts were caught by his questioning Kasey, as he impulsivly stood slightly infront of her protectivly, though he hadn't noticed he'd done it. If he had, he wouldn't have been very happy. But why Kasey? As far as he could tell, Kasey was fine. And as for his comment... well, his heart was begining to slow down too, as he was suddenly ashamed for how fast it had been going.

Sam nodded at Kaseys answer, his eyes still fixed on her when he noticed Melville straining. "Going to kill me, Seth?" He spat the word. "I'm only telling the truth. Headstrong. Look at you! Moving yourself in front of her. I'm not sure she'd like to know a Slytherin's protecting her. But then, who knows?" He stood up, walking straight up to Melville, standing so his nose was barely an inch away from Melville's. "You sicken me." He hissed, before screaming loudly in Seth's face, turning, and leapt away, running fast, nimbly avoiding fallen branches and uprooted trees.

Kasey frowned again as Seth stepped in front of her even more. She wouldn't deny that it was slightly comforting, but, she didn't think that she had anything to worry about from the other Hufflepuff, vampire or not, they still shared the same house. She looked up at the two as they faced off and her eyes widened slightly. She swallowed a lump and cried out in surprise as Sam screamed out. She put her hands to her ears and took a few steps back. She stumbled on a branch and cried out in surprise as she fell backwards to the ground.
She looked up as things seemed to settle and noticed Sam had run off. She bit her lip and pushed herself off the ground.
Part of her wanted to pursue the Hufflepuff, but the other part of her made her not. She didn't want to go further into the forest.
