An eerie chill whistled through the blackened trees, the wind twisting and turning through the knots and imperfections in the tangle of foliage. This was nature at its worst. Red eyes glared out of the corner of your eye, only to turn into shadows when you turn to catch their staring. The sound of snarling hummed around you as you walked, only to turn strangely silent when you stopped.
Melville stood, listening to the silence and his calm, even breathing. His feet were rooted to the spot, his black coat merging with the shadows bellow him so he looked almost like a part of the forest. Or at least he would have been if he'd kept still. His eyes ran across the circumference of his vision, turning his head in sharp motions to try and catch out the things which watched him.
Nothing.
He glared into the darkness, demanding it show it's secrets. But it remained motionless.
He turned away, pulling himself out of that spot and walking back through the forest, the snarling sound starting again. That's what he'd been after: a werewolf. He'd heard there was one somewhere in the forest at the full moon. He looked up to the sky. It was hard to tell if tonight was the full moon or not: the clouds covered and blurred the vision of the pale circle in the night. Close enough. he summarized, walking forwards. [/size]

She wasn't sure why she was outside so late at night, she just had a feeling she needed to be out in the darkness. She knew it was dangerous, especially where her feet were leading her, and she knew she could get into trouble.
But still, Kasey walked on, she closed her eyes for a few moments, feeling the cool dewy grass underfoot. She opened her eyes as she felt herself ever so much closer to the forest, she stopped and swallowed. Her stomach twisted and she pulled her cloak around her as her hair blew in the breeze behind her.
She could hear a faint snarling sound her head twisted as she heard a shuffle of movement and saw the figure from the corner of her eyes.
"Wait!" She called out, her voice floating across the air. She hadn't know whether to shout out 'stop' or something else, but 'wait' was the word that had left her mouth. It could have been a demon, or it could be someone like her, a little lost and wandering.

He pulled his wand out at the sudden sound that penetrated through the darkness, staying perfectly still as the echoes carried themselves around him. He narrowed his eyes, trying to see through the darkness.
He stepped forwards, making hardly a sound as he floated through through the thick undergrowth, his wand still held at straight ahead.
He tugged away a branch, his expression and stance not changing at all as his eyes fixed upon the hufflepuff, "A badger..." he said to himself, naming the common 'animal' under his breath, aiming his wand at her chest.

Kasey froze when the other student met her and bit her bottom lip as she saw his wand pointed at her. She frowned only slightly when he named her a badger and then let her lip go.
"Kasey." She corrected him. Her skin was pale in the night, it seemed to stand out under her dark hair and she genuinely looked as though she belonged in the night.
"You're not going to go in there are you?" She asked quietly pointing to the forest. She was nervous about him and his wand, but she wasn't going to let him see fear, being a Slytherin, he would most likely enjoy any display of cowardice on her behalf.

He smiled at her insecurity, having forgotten just how brilliant it was to see another student squirm because of him. "You're a Hufflepuff, are you not?" he said, knowing fine well that the answer was yes, "that mean's you're a badger. Unless, of course, you're unloyal to your fellow badgers?" he asked, his words slicing through the air.
He looked behind him for a quick look, and turned back to her, having no fear that there was any chance of the situation turning around as he did that. "Of course I'll be going in there." he said, his smile dropping as a chill went down his spine. There was a reason he wasn't in griffindor, though he would never admit it.

Kasey frowned and straightened her back, she lowered her hand to her side and gritted her teeth.
"That I am. If you are too above me to call me by my name than perhaps you deserve to get lost in the oblivion of the black forest." She glanced behind him. "I can't imagine you would know much of loyalty." She muttered.
He looked back into the forest and she thought about going for her wand, but she knew she would not use it, she was loyal to her fellow Hufflepuffs, but she wouldn't dream of risking to hurt another student, even a lowly Slytherin.
"But do tell me, what is it that makes you think you will come out of there alive?" Looking back down at his wand to her chest she jerked her head towards the forest.

He smiled at her petty attempts to make him feel low, though the more he thought about it, the worse it burrowed through him. He didn't know about loyalty, because he'd never needed it, and that had been one of the things which had been bugging him with the new... change. And as for her last comment... he didn't like to think of it.
"Quiet," he commanded in a harsh tone. "I'm going to get out alive, because you're going to help me." he said with a grin, pointing his wand at her still. "Get up, now." he almost shouted the words, but the silence was so overpowering he couldn't break through it completely.

His smile was a little unnerving, but still she tried to keep a steady angry expression on her face.
Kasey frowned darkly as he barked an order at her. She put her hands on her hips and then scoffed and almost laughed at what he said. She covered her mouth and looked at him with wide eyes, realising he was actually serious.
"Wait, you want to take me, a lowly Badger into the forest and you hope that will allow you to get out alive?" She asked with a doubtful tone. "Are you crazy? You'll just get us both killed." She looked into the dark forest behind him and then back at him.
It wasn't the wand pointed at her that told her she knew she'd go in with him, it was the thought of something happening to a fellow student and no-one knowing that told her she would go in. Even a fellow student who was a Slytherin.

He moved closer slightly, using his height to tower over her and staying close to look even more powerful. He narrowed his eyes at her, offended that she dared to speak out of turn. "No... if anyone gets killed, then you'll take the bullet." he explained, his voice painfully slow as he adressed her like a child, "Or should I say, the fangs." he smiled so wide that his own, white teeth glared in the night.
He took her by the arm, and pushed her forwards, "Stop being such a coward, badger. People go in and out of here all the time. It's just a forest." he looked up at the long branches that hung over them, peircing through the dark.

Kasey could see he was trying to appear bigger than he was, it was animal instinct, Slytherins, must be animals. She gritted her teeth and then gasped when he said she'd be taking the bullet, or the fangs.
Fangs, vampires or werewolves.
What the hell else had fangs that lived in there? Anything.
"I don't..." she was cut off when he grabbed her arm and pushed her forward. "Hey!" She cried out in surprise. She scowled at him and pulled out her own wand. "Lumos." She muttered.
"If your so sure people come in and out of here all the time, then why are you so afraid to come in alone?" She asked looking around and then back at him.

He smiled, but blinked at the new light as his eyes tried to adjust. He was lucky he'd managed to get 'help' from someone who was resorceful. Not bad looking, too... for a badger he heard himself think, before his mind strayed to his girlfriend, making all of those thoughts fly away. Almost. Not enough for his comfort.
"I'm just being sensible." he snapped, walking beside her into the forest, climbing over broken logs, as they cracked below his feet. "Just in case something does happen, you know?"

Kasey held her wand aloft before them as they walked, waving it gently from side to side to illuminate their way.
Sensible? She failed to see how going into the forest was sensible in any kind of way, especially at night. Day, maybe wouldn't have been so bad, that would at least eliminate the options of creatures you might run into.
"What do you want in here anyway?" She asked as they walked. She didn't know where they were going, she had never been in the forest before, in all her years of being at the school.

A twig moving; leaves shuffling. Sam's head shot up. No! Not here! Not now! He'd barely began feeding; if anyone spotted him, he'd be toast. Quite literally. He forced his overgrown canines back into his gums, wiping the sweat from his forehead and hiding the body of a now deceased horse that had managed to get into the Forbidden Forest. A normal horse as well. That was a rare sight; an even rarer feed...
Sam looked around, now very cautious. He could hide his fangs but his fingernails had begun getting longer so he could hold onto food, but only when he needed to feed. He couldn't hide them. His eyes, too, became blood red, completely, no pupil, no whites of the eye, no iris. He couldn't hide that either...
He could hear heartbeats not far off. Looking around (his eyesight became almost a mix of infra-red and sonar at night) he spotted two figures. Small, probably students. He had to hope he knew them. He noted that at least one was using Lumos. He would have to look away, or hope they did not look at his eyes...
"Hello?" He said, nearing the two. One he recognised. Seth, wasn't it? A Slytherin. Great. A provocation if ever there was one. "Seth, i-isn't it?" He said, looking at the girl with him. She could hear her heart beat... It sounded like she didn't want to be there...

He opened his mouth, ready to answer the hufflpuff girl's questioning when he head the new sound through the darkness, turning his wand quickly. He clenched his jaw sharply when he recognised the voice of Sam. They'd only met once before, that he could remember, but it was enough. "Dammit, what is this, a badgers meeting?" he asked, lowering his wand.
Seeing the other person in the darkness had scared him, and he was jittery now, pacing the tiny area aaround him, "And you call me Seth one more time and I swear-" he stopped, hesitating to come up with a decent threat, "it'll be the last thing you say in a very long time."

Sam insticntively turned his head away from any light, speaking again, slowly, "Sorry. I d-didn't realise." He breathed in deeply, trying to control himself. "W-Why are you this deep into the forest?" He asked. "I thought I wa- No one went this far in?" He stopped himself before he gave anything away. He blinked rapidly several times, before focusing on the other girl. "Who are y-you?" Abrupt, yes, but he was feeling very territorial at the moment. It was odd...
